Getting in over his head and questioning authority every step of the way, Red Arrow finds his way to toy aisles in the 6inch Young Justice line from Mattel. The Young Justice line, which was designed to complement the DC Universe Classics line of figures, comes packaged in a window box and is packed with accessories and a rather elaborate base.
At first glance you can tell that it is inspired by the cartoon. The face has that animated feel to it and I know that it might be a turn off for some but if you let that detract you, I really think you are missing out on one of the better DC Comics action figures to hit stores this year.
The figure has all the standard articulation that we have come to expect from the DC Universe Classics line. This means articulation in the ankles, knees, mid-thigh, the ability to move the legs back and forth and to the side. The waist swivels , the abs crunch … I mean all the articulation we have come to expect from Mattel is there. The head even nods and turns from side to side.
The accessories of this specific line always stand out. He comes with arrows that fit into his bow. His quiver on his back has arrows sculpted into it. This is something that I prefer with the alternative being that the quiver could hold the loose arrows.
The paint was beautifully done. The lines are clean and there were no stray marks. The arrows are even detailed in red and black. Not only does the paint on the figure look good but the base is also well done.
The mix of various shades of grey on the concrete sections adds a nice aesthetic, as does the coloring of the brick. The base also has various markings sculpted into the brick and concrete to really get the feel of a weathered building.
Perhaps the best part of the base is the wanted poster attached to the chimney. On the poster we see a picture of Sportsmaster and tiny holes in the poster allow for arrows to be inserted as if Red Arrow has been practicing his aim and hasn’t let go of the events that transpired in the ‘Targets’ episode.
There really is a lot to love here and very little to be concerned about. Among my concerns is the bow. It looks great but there was no string. I am not certain if it was supposed to be that way or not but it is something worth pointing out. Another concern was the figures right leg. It was slightly bowed and I mean slightly. The posing of the figure wasn’t too horribly exaggerated in package so I am not quite certain how it happened.
With my two concerns out of the way, let me just say that I still enjoy this figure. As a long time collector there are those moments when you buy a figure and you just can’t put it down. There is just something about it that makes you say “ Wow, this is really awesome!” . That is the vibe I got from this one.
From accessories to figure to base, the Red Arrow figure makes me think that the best is yet to come in the Young Justice line from Mattel and this FanBoy can’t wait to see what’s next.
